Collier House Races to Raise Funds

The thunder of the horse’s hooves could not compete with the enthusiasm and generosity of our Collier House supporters who attended “A Day at the Races” at Monmouth Park on September 24th.  Over 100 guests gathered in the picnic area to bet on the races, bid on a fabulous auction, and enjoy an extensive barbecue spread that included fare from Ocean Cafe, AJ’s Deli, and US Foods as well as beverages donated by Lucas Construction Group and the Riehl Family.  This family-friendly event also catered to the kids with face-painting by one of our volunteers and other activities around the track.

Months of planning was involved in this first-ever fundraiser specifically for our transitional living program, which raised over $13,000 for the residents.  Kerry Buckman, Collier House’s Program Manager who spearheaded this event by involving many of her family and friends in the planning, was quick to thank her supporters.  “I cannot thank everyone enough for the supporting the amazing, young women we serve!”  Special thanks, too, to the counselors at Collier House for their enthusiastic assistance with this event.  As many of the attendees said, we hope this will become an annual tradition that showcases the life-changing work being done at Collier House.
